Sonic 1-The Story-Chapter 7

Chapter 7 – FINAL ZONE
     The warp zone opened up on the floor, sending Sonic up and over to the left of it. Looking around, he took notice that he was back in a much too familiar setting. It was the same indoor factory he had been prior, but in a different area of it. He was at the start of a long, wide hallway that seemed to stretch on forever and nothing was in-between him and the end which seemed to not be in sight.
     He ran and ran down this extensive hallway, nothing but the gray steel ahead of him to look at. Clank after clank of his feet tapping on the ground, one after the other. Eventually, he walked into a room, much too similar to the hallway for Sonic to think much of, and a door shut behind him.
     Sonic knew what was happening. "Robotnik, I know you're here! Show yourself!" Sonic said. A large steel pillar rose up from the ground. It was hollow in the center; and in the little chamber was Dr. Robotnik. He smiled once again.
     "Ah, Sonic, so you've finally come. I've been waiting for this moment for a while. Are you ready to finally finish this fight?"
     "I've been ready since I first met you, egg-head! You're the one who should be scared!" Sonic shot back at Robotnik. He made a fist and got into position to attack.
     "We're really not that different when you think about it, Sonic," Robotnik started.
     Sonic loosened up. "What do you mean?"
     "Well, you see, we both have our own ways about us that we won't change for anything. We're persistent, you and I. Many would consider that a very admirable quality."
     Sonic smirked. "Yeah, but your persistence is filled with evil and mine's not!"
     "Forget our motives for this quality; I was just saying we're quite similar. It's been fun and rather annoying, Sonic. But I think I'm about ready to put this to an end. What do you say we finish this once and for all?" Robotnik held up his gloved fist.
     Sonic got back into his position. "Agreed, let me show what I can really do!" Sonic's eyes narrowed. "Alright… here goes… there's no way I can lose!" Sonic thought to himself.
     In the blink of an eye, Sonic dashed forward and Robotnik pushed various switches and buttons, confident that he would win. Suddenly, dual gun turrets appeared on either side of the cylinder and fired like mad towards Sonic. With his agility, he dodged this easily and ran around in turns avoiding all the shots. Pressing more buttons, two more turrets appeared on the top of the cylinder; this time followed by firing rockets. He got nicked by one of the energy bullets and barely avoided one of the rockets nearby.
     "Enough of this," Robotnik shouted. "BuzzBombers, GO!" He slammed down on a button. Sonic shielded himself before a bright white light appeared above him. Suddenly, there were BuzzBombers all around him, starting to fire shots at him. This was proven to Sonic much more difficult to dodge than the previous turret shots because they were coming from all over the place. He was hit several times and landed on the ground. He hopped up however; this was not enough to take him down.
     Robotnik shot a missile towards Sonic, which gave him a quick, risky idea. He lowered himself close to the ground and kicked the missile upwards toward the massive amount of badniks above him. The missile exploded which demolished a large chunk of them, but there were still many left to deal with. Looking towards the door he came in not long ago, Sonic ran towards the closed entrance and jumped onto the wall. He then propelled himself up high and kicked, punched, and slammed all the BuzzBombers that he could in this brief time.
     Robotnik hit another button, this time lighting up a large red bulb near the ceiling. It shot out six purple, electric orbs that floated in the air for a few moments, while Sonic was still distracted with the badniks. He turned just in time to be electrocuted by two of the orbs on either side of him. "Ahhhhhggg!!" Sonic shouted in pain. The electricity vanished after a few moments, leaving Sonic only to be hit by another BuzzBomber shot. He stood there for a moment, hand on his knees, trying to catch his breath. Looking up, he saw only four BuzzBombers remained. So he jumped up and smashed through one, kicked through another, then landed on the ground again. He ran up the pod Robotnik was in and back-flipped to the other two, swirling in the air and smashing these as well.
     Sonic panted. "You know… you can't win, Robotnik…!"
     Robotnik glared at Sonic. "You think so?" He opened the glass case on one of the buttons and looked down at it, and smiled. "BuzzBombers, MotoBugs, CaterKillers, Bombs, CrabMeats, Orbinauts, Yadrins, Burrowbots, everyone, GO! MOVE OUT!"
     A huge white flash engulfed the entire room; Sonic looked away to shield his eyes from the light. When he looked up, he was astonished. An entire army of badniks stood between him and Robotnik. It was an insane amount, and Sonic swallowed hard.
     "Badnik Army…." Robotnik muttered. "ATTAAAAACK!!!!"
     In one enormous swoop, every single one came darting at Sonic at an incredible velocity, faster than any badnik he'd seen move before. He tried to begin to fight, but the Badniks swarmed him. He could barely move; the badniks were scratching, thrashing, shooting, all around him. This was met with most of the Bombs blowing up all around him. He tried to fight back, but it was useless. He could barely tell what was going on because there were so many Badniks that it was hard to even see. Sonic gave in. "N-NOOOOOOOO!!!!"
     "Badniks, cease!" Robotnik said. All of them moved away to reveal a very damaged, scratched up Sonic. He had blood dripping out of his mouth and blood on his arms and legs. He lay there, barely conscious. "MWAAAA-HAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!" Robotnik laughed at the top of his lungs. "Looks like your cockiness didn't back you up in the heat of battle, did it, rodent!? Looks like I win!"
     "No….." Sonic thought. "I…. can't…." He coughed under his breath. "I can't… let him… win and…. Take over… Mobius…If only I had….. rings…" Sonic widened his eyes. "The fifteen rings from Star Light! I still…  have them!" Sonic got up slowly, trying to maintain himself.
     "Ah… so you're still in the game, are you? Well, you won't last much longer when…" Robotnik stopped to see Sonic glowering at him. "Eh? What's your problem?"
     "Hehehe…" Sonic said under coughs. He closed his eyes and focused hard. Out of thin air, the fifteen rings appeared inched away from him; he ran up and absorbed all of them, gaining his health and energy right back and even higher than before. "Robotnik," Sonic said. "It's not over yet!"
     "What?!"
     Sonic jumped up fast and smashed the BuzzBombers one by one. When he fell back down, he smashed through a BurroBot as he landed; then he proceeded to grab some of the Bombs and throw them into as many Orbinauts as he could. Kicking through one of the CaterKillers heads, he made sure to snag off a body segment and throw it into one or two of the BuzzBombers still over head. Four MotoBugs came racing towards him. He smashed through the top of one with the heel of his shoes and then through the center of another. The other two were on both sides of him, so he jumped over one, grabbed it, and threw it backwards to collide with the other one. Nearby, a Bomb was about to go off, so he snagged it up and chucked it at Robotnik's cylinder. It landed just above the center of it when it blew up and damaged the pod; not too severely, but it was something.
     One of the snail robots, Sonic now thought it was named Yardin, rolled over to him and prepared to attack. Instead of running towards it, Sonic ran up the entrance wall to grip onto a BuzzBomber and barrel back down to the ground. He swooped down and threw the BuzzBomber into the spiked part of the snail robot, completely demolishing the BuzzBomber and severely damaging the Yadrin; all of the spikes that were atop the robot were snapped and broken off. With this advantage, Sonic jumped up above it and fell down to land through the middle of the badnik.
     A CrabMeat robot scuttled toward him fast, but Sonic saw clearly what he could do here. He twisted around, nearing the crab badnik, grabbed onto one of the arms, and threw it towards the center of Robotnik's pod, cracking the glass a bit and damaging the pod itself a bit more. "You-Stop that!" Robotnik shouted.
     "You know what, I don't think I will!" Sonic said, his cockiness fully returning. He repeated this process of throwing the mechanical bots into the pod to further damaged it and anger Robotnik. CrabMeat after CrabMeat, BuzzBomber after Bomb, all of which he sent flying into some part of the pod, causing more and more damage to it.
     In the midst of all this, he accidentally threw a badnik up into the air. He didn't think much of it until he heard a crack. When he looked up, he saw a little glass compartment that was now damaged from what he did. "Robotnik, what's up there?" Sonic demanded more than asked.
     "Oh, it's uh, it's nothing of your concern, get away from there!"
     Of course, Sonic didn't. He threw up about three more until the glass shattered completely and out fell some items that Sonic did not recognize. "Robotnik, what are these things?" Sonic asked, looking at the six objects. They were all different colors, emerald green, yellow, purple, red, blue, and sky blue. All of them were diamond-shaped objects and all were very shiny.
     "Nothing, get away from them NOW!" Robotnik ordered.
     "Wait," Sonic said. "I think I know what these things are. I've heard stories and rumors about them, but I didn't think they existed, let alone see them for myself." He looked up towards Robotnik. "I've heard that they've granted extreme power once all of them were collected, and that there are seven total, each of them just as rare and hard to get as the next. These are…. The Chaos Emeralds… aren't they?"
     "I don't have to tell you, just step away from them or I'll…" Robotnik was cut off.
     "You don't have to tell me, I'll find out on my own," He paced over and stood in the center of all of them, clenching both of his fists and closing his eyes. He focused on them and tried to draw out the power that the emeralds possessed. He didn't have all of them, but Sonic figured there must be some power in each of them individually. Each of them started to glow a bright shade of what color each of them were and started to float around Sonic slowly. In one fast motion, all of the emeralds were absorbed into Sonic's body and he felt an overwhelming surge of energy come to him. His fur glowed a brighter blue than before and his eyes twinkled with green, both of which only happened for about two seconds. He floated up into the middle of the room, but not very high. Looking down at his body and his hands, Sonic smirked. "Robotnik," Sonic said, happy with this new found power. "You're going down!" He made a thumbs-up and pointed it down towards the floor, and then landed back down on the ground.
     Looking to his left, he saw that only about a dozen badniks were left. So, instead of throwing them towards the pod, he smashed right through them with much more gracefulness and each than what he was doing before. When he had cleared the space of all of them, he turned to Robotnik to finally finish what had been started.
     "Robotnik, get ready," Sonic said as he floated slowly into the air. "Because here I COME!" Sonic curled into a ball and spun around faster than he'd ever done before. Bright lights of white and sky blue bounced off of him as he did so, charging up energy.
     "What!? Put those back, the thief!" Robotnik screamed as he pounded the control deck where he was. He fired his missiles and gun turret blasts in hope of shooting Sonic down, but all they did was bounce off of him into another area of the room. The purple electric orbs appeared once more and all of them aimed for Sonic. This time, all that happened was that they vanished out of thin air, seeming to be absorbed by Sonic.
     "Interesting," Sonic said while continuing to spin faster and faster. "You're the one who imprisoned animals into machines. You're the one who turned all of those places into robotic death traps. You're the one who came into our home and demolished it in hopes of conquering it for your own selfish needs and you're the one calling me a thief?! I think YOU'RE the thief around HERE!!!" With one final flash of bright light, Sonic zipped directly through the top of the pod, demolishing the entire top portion as he cut through it like butter. He did this same motion towards more sections of the pod until it was barely standing. When this happened, he floated outside of it and held up his fist. It charged up with more bright light and with all the power he possessed, Sonic punched into the pod and made the entire structure crumble and explode. Plumes of smoke arose, circuits buzzing everywhere, and so many explosions happening on the structure.
     Robotnik was shot out of it and he landed on the ground, coughing. He started to try to get away as fast as he could, not looking back towards Sonic. This was his mistake, as Sonic held up a fist and sprinted up behind him; it was more like he was floating above the ground than running. Holding his fist higher, Sonic jumped slightly into the air. Robotnik turned around just in time to have Sonic's gloved fist collide with the side of his face. With all of the force Sonic threw into that punch, Robotnik was shot back onto the ground once again, this time landing next to another one of his floating pods. He was barely able to get himself into it, crawling over the edge, but he did manage to get in and push the necessary buttons to fly off.
     Sonic saw a box next to him with a large switch on it. Upon walking over to it, he saw that it has print on it that read BADNIK CONTROL. "The main power source! This is it!" Sonic shouted in glee. He punched right through it, making sure to destroy it as much as he could, then stepped forward to begin to chase after the fleeing scientist, but was stopped by the emeralds appearing in front of him and engulfing the entire vicinity in an immensely bright, blinding light. Sonic closed his eyes once again to shield from it and when he opened them he looked up to see that he was in the Green Hill Zone once again. But this time it looked different. It looked brighter and happier than how he'd seen it when his journey began. There were no death traps or badniks to be seen in the area, and the woodland creatures were all around, dancing and celebrating in happiness and joy for the victory Sonic had.
     The emeralds appeared once more in front of Sonic and floated up into the air. The spun around and around until they eventually were scattered in every direction, one by one, to be found another day. Sonic smiled as he looked at one fading into the distance. "Whew, if that was what I got out of only six, I wonder what would happen if I got all seven in my hands."
     Then, a grey spec in the distance caught his eye. Sure enough, it was Robotnik trying to flee as quickly as possible. But this time, Sonic didn't move. Instead, he smirked, narrowed his eyes, and clenched his fist as he looked at him.
     "Robotnik…. this isn't over…."
