sonic could be an non winged/non flying,flying type.

they are pretty fast stat-wise and sonic can use his sonic wind abilities to make tornados.

and also his homing attack its pretty similar to aerial ace.(a non miss aerial attack)

or maybe ground,he runs a lot(you know in touch with the ground),and his spin dash could work as an ground type move.
